Exploring the role of music as it relates to the moving
image on film, PHILIP ON FILM is an unprecedented event featuring
his famous works for music and film by Philip Glass. PHILIP ON FILM’s
unique approach allows the audience to view
the medium of film as Philip would-through the music. This includes
live concert screenings of Godfrey Reggio’s cult
classic KOYAANIAQATSI and POWAQQATSI, the second installment of the
“Qatsi” trilogy. The merger of sound and
image creats an intense performance experience far more powerful than
cinema alone.

POWAQQATSI examines life on our planet, focusing on the negative transforamtion
of land-based, human-scale societies into technologically-driven,
urban clones. POWAQQATSI contrarsts ways of life and depicts how the
lure of technology and mega-cities are affecting small-scale indigenous
cultures. The film focuses on the people of the Third World and shows
how “progress” is luring people into a pattern of meaningless consumption
in place of real values.
