Pinocchio’s adventure that can now live on as a piece of dance theater

Ever since the Italian writer Carlo Collodi released ‘Le avventure di Pinocchio’ in 1883, ‘Pinocchio’ has become one of world’s most famous children’s stories that everybody acquaints with while growing up. This time, the story is created into a piece of dance theater in the hands of the UK-based contemporary dance choreographer Jasmin Vardimon, highly acclaimed for her unique choreographic style that defies the limits of human body and her profound insight into social phenomena. Vardimon was born in Israel, a country home to esteemed choreographers such as Ohad Naharin and Hofesh Shechter. Trained as a dancer, she left Israel in 1997 to settle in London. In just about ten years, she was selected as the Associate Artist of Sadler’s Wells—a space dedicated to dance, firmly establishing herself as the leading choreographer of the British contemporary dance scene. In 2014, her accomplishments were recognized with the ‘Arts Council England’s Exceptional Award.’ She left a strong impression on the Korean audience with a work titled Yesterday in 2009.

Pinocchio regains its vitality through Vardimon’s unique choreography, refined direction, and her versatile dancers who freely cross over contemporary dance and acrobatics. The work dazzles children and adults alike, captivating family audiences to contemporary dance fans with its brilliant imagination. Garnering comments like ‘this is a show of dazzling imagination,’ Pinocchio, a work based on a fascinating story beloved over 130 years and filled with imagination, will transcend age and present a journey into the world of fairy tales that we have all once dreamt of. Together with the childhood nostalgia and the humorous insight into what it means to be human, you will be able to discover new meanings and affection in Pinocchio. It is an absolute gift for the whole family!
