Mozart ? Kegelstatt Trio for Clarinet, Viola and Piano in E-flat major, K. 498
Schumann ? Fairy Tales for Clarinet, Viola and Piano
Messiaen ? Quartet for the End of Time for Clarinet, Violin, Cello and Piano
In a wartime prison camp, Olivier Messiaen found himself with a clarinetist, a violinist, an old piano and a cello with a broken string. From them, he created a vision of beauty on a cosmic scale. Messiaen’s Quatuor pour le fin du temps is one of those pieces that can move audiences to tears, and we’re delighted that Sunwook Kim and maestro Osmo Vanska have agreed to join members of the Seoul Philharmonic players to perform it today. They’ll also be playing a sequence of musical “fairy tales” by Robert Schumann, and the enchanting “skittle alley” trio that Mozart wrote to perform with two of his dearest friends. Please join us for what should be a truly special occasion.
