Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra’s popular Rush Hour Concert, which sold out both in 2022 and 2023, returns on LG SIGNATURE Hall. Conductor


David Yi, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra’s Assistant Conductor since January 2020, made his successful SPO subscription début in September 2020. Known for his energetic stage presence, Korean-American conductor David Yi continues to engage audiences with a genuine passion for music. Highlights of his 2020 season include leading the Rush Hour concert series, School Music Recording Project and many other education and outreach programs. He also regularly gives pre-concert lectures for SPO subscription concerts.


David has worked with orchestras internationally in Europe, Asia and North America including Philharmonie Baden-Baden, Jenaer Philharmonie, Filharmonie Hradec Kralove and Filharmonie Teplice. He was one of the three conductors selected by Riccardo Muti to participate in the Italian Opera Academy in South Korea. He collaborated with the National Chorus of Korea and Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra and successfully led the finale concert which presented Verdi’s La Traviata. He has actively participated in master classes led by Myung-Whun Chung, Thierry Fischer, Markus Stenz and Shiyeon Sung. Recently, David served as assistant conductor to conductors such as Giancarlo Guerrero, Stephen Lord, David Robertson and Ignat Solzhenitsyn.


Born in New York City, David was strongly influenced by his musician parents and began studying piano at an early age. He decided to pursue conducting and moved to Germany where he studied orchestral conducting at die Hochschule für Musik-Franz Liszt-Weimar with Nicolas Pasquet. Upon returning to the United States, he continued his education at New England Conservatory and Yale University where he received tutelage from Hugh Wolff and Peter Oundjian respectively.
